Private markets offer a diverse range of opportunities to investors, combining asset classes with different return and diversification potentials, allowing investors to potentially improve their portfolio efficiency. At Allianz Global Investors, we have recognised this potential and have built with Allianz a large private markets platform over the last 20 years. This results in a highly diversified private markets portfolio for policyholders of Lebensversicherungs-AG (Allianz Leben) with more than EUR 90bn¹, including infrastructure equity and debt as well as corporate private debt and private equity.

Infrastructure equity and debt

Investments in the infrastructure equity and debt asset classes focusing especially energy, communication, transport, environmental and social.

Private equity

Investments in the private equity include non-listed companies made by professional investment companies, particularly private equity funds.

Corporate private debt

Investments in the corporate private debt include loans, bonds and similar debt instruments, originating primarily from institutional investors such as funds and insurance companies.

Our investment strategy

Creating a diversified portfolio of different asset classes can be challenging due to specific characteristics of private markets investments, such as capital requirements, illiquidity or experience. By providing access to the Allianz Leben portfolio via an efficient derivative structure, we offer a unique way of investing with Allianz in private markets, allowing investors to benefit from the following attractive features:

Investors benefit from a broad diversification along multiple dimensions and a systematic approach to harvest the private markets premia.

By providing access to Allianz Leben's mature evergreen private markets portfolio via a total return swap, the strategy allows exposure from day one without J-curve effect.

The strategy offers quarterly liquidity, subject to notice periods and gating rules.

The strategy pursues private markets investments globally in partnership with Allianz, thereby getting access to experienced fund managers, while benefitting from scale, market access and aligned interests with Allianz.

Leveraging a diversified set of investment capabilities

Our cross-asset private markets strategy benefits from the entire private markets know-how of AllianzGI and its partners, creating a broad pool of knowledge, experience and expertise.

The teams act predominantly as portfolio managers of private markets assets within private markets basket.
Allianz Investment Management is responsible for Allianz‘ overall private markets portfolio and reviews private markets allocation within each asset class for Allianz.
risklab optimises the target allocation and advises the Investment Committee on it.
The committee consists of senior private markets, fixed income and risk experts of AllianzGI and risklab, discussing and deciding new private markets target allocation (subject to veto right of Allianz Leben as swap counterparty).
The team is responsible of the total return swap management and fixed income portfolio management on a daily basis.
